Three Goosander over including one drake.
Just a single drake Wigeon out on the main body of water. Six Cormorants on end of new spit. Over river at Cosgrove single Oystercatcher but a huge influx of Swans this evening with around 30 together on the water and around the same number grazing in the rising hill of wheat north of Cosgrove Park (still Bucks). Too far for definite ID but taken as Mutes.

Usual wildfowl suspects in the flooded areas in small numbers of Teal, Wigeon & Pochard.
Four Goosander inc two drakes remain. A single cock Common Pheasant wandered along the northerly 'beach'.

Treecreepers along river and good numbers of Tufted Duck (no not Scaup) in easterly Cosgrove lake.

A walk around MF this morning saw a large mixed flock of Fieldfare & Redwing in the sheep field.
2 Goosander on one of the outer pools toward the railway. 1 Little Egret by the river & a GS Woodpecker drumming.

Weds 3rd March - Evening - Oystercatcher

4c Cloud, cold E wind.
Spring is in the air, but that easterly wind doesn't want you to know it yet.
First true arrival in an Oystercatcher out at the end of the new spit and a further sign things are on the move with a pair of Little Egrets, the first for a while, around the margins.
Also out on the water a pair of Goosander remain in the inlet while there was the first Great Created Grebe on the main body of water in a while.
A Fox put in an appearance wandering around the lake edge much to the interest of the 20 or so Mallards at the east side. The only other duck viewed tonight a pair of Wigeon in the flooded shallows.
On leaving a single Grey Partridge was flush from the hedges in the top corner along the ridge.

Suprising how quick the water has gone down from Monday though some areas still hold flood water, the ground is still saturated (even up the hill) and the lake is still high.
A single Common Buzzard sat in the cuttings from the relaid hedge, surrounded by crows but seemingly not a care in the world.
Out on the water the five Goosander (2 drakes) remain. In the rough flooded grass area a few Teal and Wigeon while along the spit and its surrounds the number of Pied Wagtails are increasing daily.

A quick visit post work.
As predicted valley in flood but out on the expanse of water a party of five Goosander, including two drakes, highest number seen here.
A single Green Sandpiper the only other bird of note, hanging in there on the far east bank in front of the newly relaid hedge.

I nipped along to Manor Farm, where the nature of the main lake has changed yet again. Probably as a result of all the recent rain - or possibly a change in the pumping regime - the lake is now full, with just a thin causeway, and limited mud on the northern shore. Presumably the water level will drop by spring, but currently it's not looking particularly favourable for waders. There were 3 Goosander (1m 2f) there, plus a Grey Wag.

Was probably about the same level this time last year Rob on the main body of water so theres a chance especially if work resumes around the inlet area and the pumps are turned back on. As you can see its down about a foot already on its max and given how shallow the area is another few inches should start to see larger areas of mud exposed. Of course todays weather will not help and i'd expect to see the valley flooded again in the morning but towards the end of last week Godwit Corner was getting down to the levels that started to attract stuff in last year.

A pair of Mistle Thrush mixing with the ever growing Fieldfare and Redwing flock on the top field. A Kestrel over putting all to flight.
A dozen Pochard down on the lake while on the new spit nine Cormorant.
Over the river on Cosgrove lake a varied selection of wildfowl including Gadwall, Widgeon, Tufted Duck in small numbers a pair of Great Crested Grebes but as ever Coot dominate.
The usual mixture of Gulls with perhaps Common Gulls edging it in numbers of around fifty.

Apart from a smattering of Mallard just a single drake Teal the only other duck.
Green Sandpiper favouring the island area to the north east of new expanded lake, a Grey Wagtail also in this area. The usual gull mix including a couple of Lesser Black Backed and Herring Gull.
Three Common Buzzards about. Two wheeling over near the Viaduct while the third is the bird that has srted frequening the area to the west of the farm buildings, rooting sometimes in the trees or on the posts by Godwit Corner.

Good buildup of winter thrushes in top field, Fiedfare dominate but noted increasing Redwing numbers lately.
Water level still fairly high but out on new spit 12 Lapwing join the 8 Cormorant and a handful of Common Gulls.
Two pair of Goosander still in area.

Usual Fieldfare & Redwing flock flitting about on top field.
Green Sandpiper again favouring the area near the pumps.
Sparrowhawk gliding low over the calm empty water was a cracking sight.
Out on the new spit a new high count of 14 Cormorants.

Fourteen Cormorant out at the tip of the new spit with around 120 Lapwing.
Green Sandpiper around the slowly improving margins.
Small numbers of Teal and Wigeon about and a single female Shoveler.
Around 30 Tufted Duck over at Cosgrove lake and a smattering of Gadwall, good numbers of Pochard too.
A pair of Goosander came in late to the new lake while a Common Buzzard sat on the posts at Godwit Corner.

Broken cloud, cold NE wind, odd flake of snow.
Flock of around 250 Fieldfare with smattering of Redwing on slopes of East Field.
Along Back Brook two Little Egrets while on the main body a 200 strong assortment of Gulls and a pair of Goosander.
An incoming helicopter heralded around 120 strong Pochard flock of which around 70 landed in the Manor Farm waters the rest over at Cosgrove.

Manor Farm,
3 LITTLE EGRETS were in the field on the other side of the river from the
Haversham end before I even got out of the car.
The first pit you reach from this end held 7 Pochard and a GREEN SANDPIPER. I
also saw the same or another GS further up the river on the way back.
The main pit held nothing more exciting than a few Mallard, Wigeon and Teal.
Up towards the west end after the metal gate I followed the line of pollarded
Willows and accidently flushed a LITTLE OWL and then 50 yards further on a BARN
OWL !, this gave excellent views as it flew right around the main lake persued
by a few Black headed Gulls.

Thurs 7th Jan - Yellow Legged Gull - NBBR

And a 'mega' for Manor Farm on its very, very small bit of ice free water. On it sat just five Herring Gulls, nothing else, one being of the Yellow Legged (Gull)
variety, a first for the Farm.
